"At this
momentous time when recent scientific evidence from HPTN 052 trial,
showed that early HIV treatment is a highly effective preventive tool,
means that for the first time in 30 years of ever escalating AIDS crisis,
the epidemic can be ended. However, success requires commitment of all
countries and increased funding support in order to achieve universal
access, and to implement all other evidence-based best preventive
measures including condoms, male circumcision, behavioral change, and
programmes targeting at risk populations. The World Initiative for
Science & Healthcare (WISH), through its EndHIVNow initiative working
with other stakeholders will play an important role towards a future
generation without HIV/AIDS."

Dr. Mugyenyi helped lay the groundwork for the US President’s Emergency Plan
for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and was present at its unveiling in Washington, DC
during the 2003 State of the Union Address. He is a leading advocate for
insuring that prevention, testing and most of all, treatment reach those most
in need in sub-Saharan Africa where over 60% of the 33.4 million people
afflicted by the epidemic reside. In 2008, his book entitled book, Genocide by
Denial: How Profiteering from HIV/AIDS Killed Millions, was published, which he
describes as an “honest approach to the AIDS epidemic and how it has been
handled in Uganda and worldwide.” The World Initiative for Science and
Healthcare is honored to have Dr. Mugyenyi on its advisory board to help guide
its efforts. |
